They say 'it takes a village' to raise a child, but sometimes, it takes a hotel lobby to start a marriage.
I arrived at The Grand Hotel in Scarborough, ready to officiate a bespoke wedding ceremony for Michelle Louise and Lee. As a Yorkshire wedding celebrant, my role is to ensure that every couple feels celebrated, but as the ceremony time approached, it became clear that the couple were facing their big moment alone.
In that moment, the heart of the wedding took over. I watched in awe as the Assistant Manager stepped in, gathering visitors and staff to witness the vows. People who had woken up as strangers ended the afternoon as wedding guests.
It wasn't the ceremony they had originally planned, but with a room full of new friends, it was—in every sense of the word—perfect. It serves as a beautiful reminder of why I founded Tip Your Hat; my goal is to hold space for love, no matter the circumstances.
Whether you are planning an intimate elopement or a large celebration, finding the right Yorkshire wedding celebrant to craft a bespoke wedding ceremony is essential. Thank you to Michelle and Lee for letting me be part of your day, and to the people of Scarborough who stepped in to make it unforgettable.
Hat’s off to the power of kindness.
